The Queen of all Tunisian resorts

The seaside resort of Hammamet holds a special place in Tunisia. It has become a fashionable holiday

destination due to its charm, its mild climate in winter and its wonderful stretch of fine sandy beach along the deep blue Mediterranean sea.
Located in the southern part of 'Cap Bon' - Tunisia's finger pointing to Sicily - it is only 65km away from Tunis by expressway. It is a major destination due to its attractions and its many fabulous accommodations. Here is a list of its main sightseeing landmarks among many more:
-An old medina surrounded by the high walls of a former kasbah.
-A city beach on the bay with its fishing boats.
-An ancient city thriving with commercial activity.
-An archaeological site called 'Pupput' by the Romans.
-A tropical garden by the sea used to accommodate the 'Festival d'Hammamet'.
-An extensive modern touristic section called Yasmine Hammamet,

complete with outstanding hotels, amusement parks and a marina set with cafés and restaurants.
Unsurprisingly, Hammamet has always attracted celebrities. German painters like Paul Klee (1879-1940) or August Macke (1887-1914) came here for inspiration. Some were famous Italians like Sophia Loren, Elsa Schiaparelli, or Bettino Craxi. Others were French like the singer Adamo or the the writer Frédéric Mitterrand. But it also includes other historical figures, who were attracted by its charm: Gustave Flaubert, Guy de Maupassant, André Gide, Jean Cocteau, Oscar Wilde. The list also extends to politicians like the Duke of Windsor and his wife Wallis Simpson, George VI, Winston Churchill, Dwight Eisenhower, Bernard Montgomery or Princess Grace of Monaco.
There are other interesting attractions close to Hammamet. The area of 'Cap Bon' is worth being explored. Nabeul, famous for its ceramics, is its closest neighbor only a few kilometers away. There is a nice, open zoo on the southern coast called Friguia. Sousse is another interesting city, located at about 60km south of Hammamet on the southern expressway, as well as Monastir, a few kilometers away...
