The town of Prachuap Khiri Khan offers many attractions in its vicinity. Just south of town, the isthmus is the narrowest part of the country (only 12km). There is a historic pass (Dan Singkhon) here that serves as a border between Thailand & Myanmar. The countryside is lush and quite scenic at the foot of the mountain range that runs through the Malay Peninsula.
About 4km away from the border, there is a strange rock formation known as Khao Hin Stone Park. Although there is a road sign, which indicates the direction, it is not clear where to turn left and get onto a small country road that leads to a forest where huge boulders suddenly appear.
There is no information about the origin of these huge rocks. But millions of years ago, this area was most probably undergoinga huge volcanic activity. This is why at some places, there are still hot springs.
Anyway, Stone Park is a real natural wonder. It has been turned into a small park with hiking trails and steps clearly indicated. Often, the Thais link such natural sites to some kind of divinities. As a matter of fact, under two huge boulders, there is a Buddhist temple, which appears to be inside an open cave. One monk lives here as a hermit.
