A new landmark has been added to Bangkok’s skyline. Squeezed between two bridges over the Chao Phraya River, near the Yodpiman River Walk and the Flower Market, there was an old railroad bridge that had been unused for years.
Someone had the brilliant idea to turn it into a garden bridge rather than to dismantle it. This is how the Chao Phraya Sky Park idea came alive!
The project was finished last June, but it has only been inaugurated recently. It is now open to the public and already a lot of people come to enjoy this unusual park. There is a track for bicycles as well since biking has become a popular activity in town.
But the park has many varieties of plants and flowers; there are benches to sit and many viewpoints offering a good panoramic view of the river and the city on both sides.
The walkway is 280m-long and enables visitors to access easily the cultural sites of the nearby Thonburi riverbank.
