It is more common to talk about Pattaya City than about its immediate surroundings. Yet, its large bay has much to offer and there are many sights worth to be seen.
At the harbor, near the hill, it is possible to ride the ferry to the outer islands, in particular to KOH LAM. But this review deals more with the coastline, which I revisited recently.
JOMTIEN BEACH.
This long stretch of sandy beach has been cleaned and revamped by the local authorities. The trees provide a natural shade, while the pedestrian walkway offers a pleasant alternative.
With all its highrise constructions, Jomtien remains an urban seaside resort, although it has a definite Thai touch, which makes it more pleasant.
But the farther away you go from the downtown center, the more pleasant it becomes. A series of new boutique resorts have now been opened, offering a full sea-view on the bay.
BAN AMPHUR BEACH.
This long shady beach has become more developed recently. There are many upscale restaurants and open coffee shops here. It is a favorite hotspot for young Bangkokers. It is definitively a more quiet place than Jomtien and a pleasant area to rest on the beach or go swimming.
BANG SARAY BEACH.
This is the latest upscale development with a super white sandy beach. It is on the East side of the bay on a small peninsula on the other side of the SATTAHIP Royal Thai Navy base.
Bang Saray is a fishing village, so there are a few seafood restaurants in the vicinity.
