Khao Sok Rainforest

In south Thailand, the region of the Malaysian peninsula between the Gulf of Thailand in the East and the coast of the Andaman Sea in the West, is home to a vast rain forest. It is considered as one of the oldest in the world. It also offers the largest variety of plant species.
The area in the Surat Thani province is known as Khao Sok and is a Thai National Park.
This park has a vast manmade lake with limestone rocks. It has been locally nicknamed "Little Guilin" as it evokes the Chinese province of Guilin on the Li River.

1. The natural environment.

If Khao Sok is accessible by car for a visit, there remains vast areas of virgin rain forest with wild fauna or flora species. There are also a few plantations of oil palm trees or rubber trees along the road that crosses the peninsula from Surat Thani to Takuapa.

The rain forest area goes as far as Phang Nga Bay in the south, along the coast of the Andaman Sea. There are many waterfalls but they are not always accessible.
